Meet Our Team!
I began working at Barker Animal Hospital as a vet assistant in December of 2015, just before our grand opening. Over time, I became receptionist and as of October 2017, office manager. I grew up in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach and graduated from Old Dominion University in May of 2015 with a bachelors in biology. I have a 5 year old miniature schnauzer named Scooter, who you may have seen featured in some of our ads! I love the summertime and enjoy any outdoor activity that involves the beach. I've always had a passion for working with animals and enjoy every day that I get to help care for your furry family members.
I started working at Barker Animal Hospital in November of 2017. My background is primarily training and caring for horses for the last 11 years. In September of 2018 I rescued a Terrier Mix named Lola. I am in the process of going back to school, and looking forward to continuing my education in the Vet Tech field. I enjoy watching your fur-babies grow, and love the relationships that we have gained with our clients.
I began working at Barker Animal Hospital in early September of 2018, right after I moved to Virginia Beach. I grew up in Massachusetts, where I have 6 years of experience working with various types of animals. I obtained my B.S in Biology from Fitchburg State University in 2013. I own 2 boxers of my own, Jax and Rosie, as well as 3 guinea pigs; Nub, Borky Pig, and Goober. I love seeing all of the dogs and cats that come here!
I started with Barker Animal Hospital in February 2016 and I have worked in the veterinary medical field for 16 years. I obtained an Associates degree in Veterinary Technology in 2007. I absolutely love working with your furry babies and I am excited to meet all of our new clients. I am the proud mother of 1 human child, 2 dogs and one very large rabbit. My family has lived in Chesapeake for the last 25 years and we are grateful to call this home. Melissa is now Fear Free Certified!
I started my journey at Barker Animal Hospital in May 2018. I have had over 19 years of experience in multiple states as a result of being a proud Coast Guard wife. I am a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a B.S. in Biology, receiving my Veterinary Technician license thru Marylands grandfather clause waiver program in 2011. I recently completed my Fear Free Certification, and look forward to further enhancing my knowledge thru additional courses in the near future. In addition to my supportive husband, I have 2 teenage boys, 4 cats, 1 dog, and a yellow foot tortoise named Kurt. In my free time; I enjoy being outdoors either in the water, hiking, riding rollercoasters, or traveling to taste various ciders. I know that I have picked the perfect profession, because I love every day that I get to spend with your fur-babies.
I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2016 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology, and I also worked as a Kennel technician while I lived in Richmond. I moved back home to Suffolk, Virginia, after being offered the opportunity to work for Barker Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant, and I hope to further my goals in the field of veterinary medicine. I have an 8 year old Pointer-mix named Joey, and he loves belly rubs, long walks, and his stuffed pizza toy. This is an entirely new experience for me, and you and your fur-babies make it an exciting time!
